They are as much a part of Berlin's cityscape as they are of the urban scenes painted by David Antonides: trains, stations, bridges, and travellers. These elements take center stage in this cycle of paintings, and like in a movie, they roar toward us or pass by in a fleeting instant. David Antonides’ new series of large-scale works lets viewers feel it: Berlin’s railway network is the lifeblood of the capital. Spanning the city, multi-tracked yet unobtrusive, the rails carve their way through Berlin, setting the rhythm of the metropolis. The large-format paintings capture the dynamic essence of rail traffic with views etched into the subconscious of every Berliner. Yet, through the expressive visual language of the Canadian artist, these familiar scenes evoke new and unexpected emotions, inviting us to see the city through his eyes from fresh perspectives.
Rest assured, a sense of deceleration will also take hold. On the platforms, waiting becomes a moment of contemplation—of graffiti, of architecture. The upcoming exhibition at the Produzentengalerie Brunnen64 invites you to embark on a journey through snapshots of the capital.
